Course Information
The IQA awards first began as the D34 qualification, however, in the early 2000s the government realised that the industry had become much more complex and therefore the qualification evolved into the V1 award.
It was in the early 2010s where it was decided that education had become even more advanced and complex, so a new range of qualifications needed to be introduced in order to replicate this. These new qualifications were nicknamed ‘TAQA’ – Training, Assessing and Quality Assurance.
As a result of TAQA being enforced, the IQA qualification was broken down into 3 different variations. This meant that more people would have access to an IQA qualification that was more specific to the role that they would be undertaking.
The variations of the qualification are as follows:
Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
Units Included: 4
About: This award is a knowledge-only qualification which details how quality assurance should be undertaken.
Suitable For: Anyone who needs to know how quality assurance is conducted but won’t be officially practicing as an IQA.
Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
Units Included: 4&5
About: This award is focused on conducting internal quality assurance within an organisation by sample planning, monitoring and advising on the practice of assessors.
Suitable For: Anyone who will be practicing as an internal quality assurer.
Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
Units Included: 4, 5 & 6
About: This award is focused on leading the internal quality assurance process with a responsibility of managing the quality and performance of assessors. It also focuses on developing systems and leading visits from outside agencies such as awarding organisations.
Suitable For: Anyone who is responsible for leading a team of internal quality assurers.
Course Structure
At PMTandA, we deliver the knowledge part of the IQA qualification as an online course. This is split into 3 parts:
- Managing and Monitoring Assessors
- Sampling of Assessments
- Monitoring and Compliance
As part of the above, we will also cover the requirements needed to achieve the qualification and how to construct your portfolio for assessment.
Assessment
Each trainee IQA will put together a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed by one of our assessors. For candidates intending to complete Unit 2, they must be responsible for a minimum of two assessors, who each have at least two candidates themselves. Trainee IQAs will also be observed with one of their assessors and have a professional discussion.
