Course Information

This course covers the techniques and processes required when completing installation work. This course is designed to train persons required to assemble signalling systems, sub system component parts and install and terminate wires and cables.

The course starts with talking through the signalling installation handbook and the standards that apply to us when we are installing. We will then look at good and bad techniques that are used. A practical is spread over several days wiring up a location case.

Prerequisites

Before attending this course, delegates should have successfully completed Signal Engineering Maintenance 1 (SEM 1) or equivalent.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

• Describe how to use assembly drawings and what specifications to follow.
• Identify which assembly methods and techniques apply.
• Recognise the quality control procedures that apply and assembly defects.
• Know equipment handling procedures.
• Describe preassembly checks that are required.
• Complete installation procedures for location fixings, location equipment and cables & wire.

Assessment

Delegates will be assessed by continual practical assessments throughout, as well as by completing a written theory assessment.
